Updated press release: important information on new categories of passengers entitled to fare discounts

As of December 1 teachers’ monthly tickets at reduced prices will be also available to technical staff of Riga municipal schools, some categories of employees at institutions of Riga City Council’s Welfare Department (social workers, carers, medical staff, care assistants, nurses, whose official duties are directly linked to providing social services to clients and who work full time), teachers of Ministry of Culture schools, as well as all staff of preschool educational institutions – teachers, nurses and technical staff. The procedure of receiving fare discounts is described below.
Discounts will be available to persons having a personalized e-ticket/Riga resident’s card. One can apply for the status of discounts recipient as of today, November 23, yet tickets with teachers’ discounts will be sold as of December 1. 

How to get the discounts?
  • Teachers of municipal schools, technical staff of schools, social workers, carers, medical staff, care assistants, nurses of Riga City Council’s Welfare Department institutions, whose official duties are directly linked to providing social services to clients and who work full time, teachers of Ministry of Culture schools, as well as all staff of preschool educational institutions – teachers, nurses and technical staff may apply for discounts as of  November 23 in udv.riga.lv user profile by making an electronic mark on the consent to receive the fare discount and on having familiarized with the regulations. The fare discount may be activated as of November 30 by inserting a personalized e-ticket/Riga resident’s card into a ticket vending machine (except low-floor trams). Those persons who have not a personalized e-ticket/Riga resident’s card shall go to one of the customer service centres to receive it.
  • For teachers of Emīls Dārziņš Music Secondary School, Riga Dome Choir School, Jānis Rozentāls School of Arts, Riga Choreographic Secondary School, Jāzeps Mediņš Music Secondary School, Professional Education Competence Centre “Riga Secondary School of Design and Arts”, submitting collective applications for discounts in remote mode will be organised at their respective schools, provided these teachers already have a personalized e-ticket/Riga resident’s card, but if a person does not have a personalized e-ticket/Riga resident’s card, he/she has to take a reference from the school and go to one of “Rīgas satiksme” customer service centres to receive it. To activate the status of discount recipient, the e-ticket/Riga resident’s card is to be inserted into a ticket vending machine (except low-floor trams) on December 1. 
“Rīgas satiksme” notes that fare discounts will be available to all teachers, not only to those working at the main place of employment, and also to technical staff working at least 20 hours per week.
